This will be Kaiserslautern’s seventh DFB Pokal final. They have won the trophy twice (1990 and 1996) and were runners-up in 1960/61, 1971/72, 1975/76, 1980/81 and 2002/03. K-Town returns to the local cup after 21 years.

The Kaiserslautern team reached the final after beating Saarbrücken 2-0 in the semifinals. Reaching the final is already a great achievement for the team, who play in the second division and finished the season in thirteenth place. Winning the title against a team that did not lose in Germany this season would be epic.
