With Alexander Isak still managing fitness concerns, Hugo Ekitike is set to lead the line for Liverpool once again against Manchester City.
The Reds are aiming for a third straight win, something they have not managed since September. Standing in their way, though, are the Sky Blues.
Liverpool’s defence has been shaky this season, while City and Erling Haaland have had no trouble finding the back of the net. It means the Reds will need to be sharp going forward as well.
Ekitike has been in good form since arriving in the summer. With Isak likely only fit enough for a spot on the bench, it will be up to him to lead the line again.
Both sides boast dangerous forwards and the Frenchman recently mentioned there is an aspect of Haaland’s play he would like to bring into his own game.
If you are a striker looking to develop your game, there are few better examples than Haaland, who seems to turn every touch into a scoring chance.
Haaland’s ability to find the net, even when he is not heavily involved in play, sets him apart. It is a skill Ekitike is eager to add to his own game, recognising how that constant threat keeps defenders on edge.
He told the Daily Mail: “He’s probably the best striker in the world now for a few years, and definitely someone I’m looking at.”
The 23-year-old added: “I think if I can add a little bit in my game it would be from his game. He’s able to do things without touching the ball much during the game, and it’s really impressive.
“So yes, he’s definitely someone I’m looking at.”
While their styles may differ, every forward would love to have even half of Haaland’s ability as a pure goalscorer.
They may play the same position, but their roles are quite different. Ekitike is more involved in build-up play, while Haaland’s game is built around finishing chances.
Still, the Frenchman has started to find his scoring touch as well. Since joining Liverpool, he has settled in quickly and shown he can be a real threat in front of goal.

While there is no doubt Haaland has the stronger record – he has been one of the world’s best for some time now – Ekitike should be recognised for how quickly he has adapted to life in the Premier League.
This weekend could turn into a head-to-head clash between the two strikers. If Ekitike steps up, it might just reignite Liverpool’s title hopes.
