Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been highly praised for his performances this season.

This is a far cry from just a few years ago, when he was criticised on a weekly basis by the Man United fanbase.

Maguire’s form ultimately led to being stripped off the captaincy by Erik ten Hag.

Since then, he has made the road to redemption and scored the winner against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season.

He impressed in Sunday’s win against Arsenal in the Premier League.

However, he is not the only defender to have worn the Man United shirt to have made the headlines this week.

Hull City have revealed on their official website that they have signed former Man United defender Paddy McNair.

The 30-year old has signed an 18-month deal at the club, arriving from Major League Soccer side San Diego FC.

Paddy McNair signed for San Diego in 2024, but a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion was announced on the same day.

He would go on to make 24 appearances for the North American side.

A return to English football now awaits for McNair, as he looks to help Hull earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Level on points with third place Ipswich Town, they are just five behind second place Middlesborough, McNair’s former side.

McNair could be involved as early Saturday, as Hull take on Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

They will then face games against Watford and Bristol City before they take on former manager Liam Rosenior and his Chelsea side in the FA Cup fourth round.

McNair, who won Player of the Year for Boro in 2020/21, helped guide the team to the playoffs two seasons later.

He also helped guide San Diego to top spot in the Western Conference in the MLS in 2025.

His experience will be valuable to this Hull City side.
