On Monday, all eyes will be on Luis de la Fuente’s squad announcement for Euro 2024. The 62-year-old will name his 26-man squad to represent Spain in Germany, as La Roja target a third title in the competition. One player that could be selected is Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia, who has been one of the best midfielders in La Liga this season.

It’s been a fine campaign for Garcia, who was included in Spain’s squad for the November internationals. After Friday’s 7-0 victory for Girona against Granada, he revealed he has cancelled summer plans in hope of being picked by de la Fuente – quotes via Relevo.

“I’ve arranged to play golf with David (Lopez), but I think I’m going to cancel it, and I’m going to keep an eye on Luis’ list. For me it would be a huge joy, I think I’ve had a great season. A lot of the team have done well and everyone would deserve it. I’m going to enjoy the time off now, but keep an eye on that list because I think I can be there (in Germany).”

Garcia’s chances of being picked have increased because of the injury problems for Gavi and Isco, but even so, he would probably deserve to be there on merit. For now, the wait goes on for him to know whether he will be representing Spain this summer.
