Tottenham Hotspur signed Randal Kolo Moni on loan from PSG on deadline day, but they wanted Ademola Lookman first.
They were keen on improving the attacking unit, and they ended up signing the 26-year-old. However, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham were initially keen on signing Ademola Lookman from Atalanta before they made a move for the French international.
They were hoping to sign the Nigerian on loan with an option to buy. However, the Italian outfit were not open to such a move and therefore Spurs had to move on to other targets. It will be interesting to see if Kolo Muani can hit the ground running in the Premier League and establish himself as a key player for the club.
Romano revealed via GMS: “He was an option for Tottenham. I can tell you that Tottenham, before going all in for Randal Kolo Muani, considered the possibility to go for Lookman. Different players, of course, one is a winger, the other one is a striker, but Tottenham wanted to do a similar deal, maybe a loan, a loan with buy option. Atlanta said, forget about that. So Bayern tried with an official bid, rejected. Tottenham thought about this possibility, but was not even a chance. And so Lookman, at the moment, stays at Atalanta unless something crazy happens on the market’s that are still open.”
Lookman has played in the Premier League before, and he could have made an instant impact. He has been an outstanding performer for Atalanta in recent seasons. He registered 27 goal contributions last season, and he is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front. Three.
On paper, he could have been the ideal acquisition for Tottenham, and he would’ve been the perfect replacement for Son Heung-min. That said, Kolo Muani is a talented player as well, and there is no reason why he cannot improve Tottenham.
