Liverpool's interest in Newcastle United's Alexander Isak has brought lots of rumors suggesting the move will happen this summer. Reports from David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano suggested Liverpool is willing to pay over $140 million this summer to sign Isak.
Liverpool is also after Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, who was a target for Newcastle United. The Premier League champions are keen on signing a striker this summer, and while a move for Ekitike could be done quickly, the Reds persist in waiting for Isak.
Newcastle United are currently unwilling to sell the Swedish striker, but reports suggest that if Isak pushes a move to Liverpool, the transfer could happen.
Newcastle United played a friendly match against Celtic FC without Isak in the squad. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed the reason why he kept the striker out of the squad and gave insight into the player's desire for his future.
Eddie Howe was asked about the absence of Isak in the squad, as the player was not called up for the game against Celtic. Isak wasn't on the bench, and Howe addressed the rumors surrounding his player, who is still linked to Liverpool.
Howe insists the player is happy at Newcastle United, but also suggests that the player may prefer a move away soon. When asked about Isak and his future, Howe spoke about the rumors that have sparked throughout the summer, and many believe the transfer saga is far from over.
Eddie Howe: "Yes, I've had discussions with him, but that's not abnormal. I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him."

Rumors regarding Isak to Liverpool sparked again when the striker was not called up in the squad vs Celtic in the friendly that took place at Celtic Park.
Isak is not injured, and Howe gave the reasoning for not including the striker in the squad. The English manager mentions that he sent the striker home instead of being in attendance to watch the team.
Eddie Howe: "It was my decision. He traveled back to Glasgow with us but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny, then if he wasn't going to play today, we mutually agreed he shouldn't be here."
