Diogo Jota stormed on to the scene last season when he was signed by Liverpool from Wolves for a fee of over £40million. The transfer came out of the blue but the 24 year old hit the ground running and quickly won over the adoration of the Anfield faithful.

As reported by liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool's Portuguese international has been talking to Premier League Productions about how he wants to improve on last season.

Jota On This Season And Desire For Trophies

Jota was clear that his progress last season was hampered by the knee injury which kept him out for three months and as a result he expects more from this season.

“Last season was good but also I had a big injury as well,”

“Now this season hopefully I can go through without any of the stuff that stopped me playing for a while and I hope that helps me to get better numbers, to help the team win more games, and to win something."

“That’s what I want: I want titles.”

Jota On Developing As a Player

The forward was keen to acknowledge that he is continuing to learn as he continues his progression and playing at the highest level can only help with that.

“Obviously, I think, each day is an opportunity to learn and we learn with experience, in my opinion, with getting a lot of new experiences."

“I was able to play last season in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, for example, the first of those kinds of games in my career, so that’s an opportunity to learn and to hopefully get there this season and do better.”

Jota On His Position At Liverpool

In Roberto Firmino's absence, Jota has been used as a central striker but is also comfortable attacking from the left with the player keen to emphasise his versatility.

“I see myself as an attacking player.“

"We play with three up front – I feel comfortable playing in one of those three positions."

"But I also was a midfielder during my academy [time], for 10 or 12 years.“

"So I think I understand the game and I can play in several positions, and I think that is a good thing for me and for the team.”

LFCTR Verdict

Jota's form since joining Liverpool has been excellent. No-one gave him a chance of breaking up the famous front three and to a certain extent he has managed to do that.

Providing he can stay fit, with his eye for goal and aerial ability there is no reason why Liverpool should not be looking at a 20 goal season for their Portuguese star.
