Adam Wharton is facing an uncertain future at Crystal Palace as Tottenham links grow stronger

Tottenham were in the hunt for a new midfielder all summer after it became clear that the Lilywhites needed more manpower in the middle of the park. However, the North London club could only manage to bring in Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich. The Portugal international is more of a holding midfielder, and he cannot be relied to control the tempo of the game and drive the ball up.

As of now, Spurs have Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr operating as makeshift No.8s in the team. But there is a clear need for a new player that could offer a different dynamic in the middle of the park. With Bentancur facing an uncertain future at N17 and Sarr not having the technical ability to play as a #8 regularly, Thomas Frank is left with a massive headache as games come in thick and fast.

There is no surprise that the North London club was interested in signing Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace in the summer. Earlier reports suggested that Spurs tried landing the England international on deadline day, just hours before the transfer window shut. But the move never materialised due to the short amount of time left for Palace to find a suitable replacement.

Tottenham urged to test the waters for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton again

Tottenham are again keeping tabs on Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton for a potential January move. The Lilywhites are keen to land the England international this time around after failing to sign him in the summer. However, reports suggest that Liverpool are currently leading the race for the midfielder’s signature, leaving the North London club in disarray.

Taking notice of Spurs’ potential interest in the 21-year-old, David Bentley has called for the club to do everything it takes to land him. Speaking on the Inside Spurs podcast by talkSPORT, Bentley said,

“I think in the midfield, I like Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. Somebody like that could sit in the front of the defence and dictate games. Just a young replacement. I think he’s being touted by Real Madrid. If you can nip in and get a player like that, I think it sort of advances you on.”

David Bentley is a fan of Adam Wharton and wants Tottenham to test the waters for his signature in the coming months. The ex-Spurs player wants the Lilywhites to sign a player that could dictate the tempo of the game from central midfield. And Bentley believes that Wharton ticks all those boxes to become a mainstay in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank.

Signing Adam Wharton will surely be seen as a statement of intent by Spurs. The England international’s technical ability will suddenly make the Lilywhites tick, giving other players the freedom to make darting forward runs. Wharton would also bring some control and composure in the middle of the park, allowing the team to keep the ball at all times.
