Igor Tudor backed by journo to do well at Tottenham despite not lasting ‘more than 78 games at a single club’

Tottenham have appointed Igor Tudor as their interim boss until the end of the season.

Igor Tudor has been appointed as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager until the end of the season. He was unveiled as Thomas Frank’s replacement on Saturday afternoon following the Dane’s dismissal on Wednesday.

Thomas Frank had joined Spurs from Brentford in June 2025 after the club parted ways with Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian guiding them to the Europa League title in Bilbao. However, a poor run of form eight months later prompted the board to wield the axe on Frank.

Tottenham have acted quickly as they are staring a relegation battle in the face, and Igor Tudor is tasked with not only keeping them up but also guiding them to a respectable finish in the Premier League. The 47-year-old has no Premier League experience, but, fascinatingly, he does have a lot of experience over in Italy. The Croat has managed Italian clubs like Udinese, Hellas Verona, Lazio, and Juventus.

Sky Sports presenter Dougie Critchley thinks Igor Tudor is an interesting appointment at Spurs

Tudor was sacked by Juventus in October 2025 after a series of poor results. He was in charge of 24 games and seven months at Juventus, but a winless run of eight games saw the board pull the plug on him.

Italian football expert Patrick Kendrick feels the Croatian tactician has a great chance to “prove a point” at Tottenham. Now, Sky Sports presenter Dougie Critchley feels Tudor is an “interesting appointment”, and his experience of steadying ships in his previous jobs could come in handy at Spurs.

“It’s an interesting appointment from Spurs. I don’t think many people necessarily saw it coming,” Dougie Critchley said on Sky Sports News.

“Igor Tudor did a pretty solid job picking up at the end of last season, securing Champions League football for Juventus, just one point ahead of Roma. Prior to that with Lazio, nearly made the Copper Italia final before losing to Juventus in that semi-final. So, he’s been in really intense environments.”

“Juventus is the most successful club domestically in Italian football history. Lazio, it’s a very, very hot-headed environment at points. That rivalry with Roma is absolutely massive. He’ll need that experience going into that North London derby the weekend after this.

“He’s never lasted more than 78 games at a single club, but it is not really about the long term. This is short-term. Get Spurs away from this relegation battle. They’re only five points clear as it stands. And Igor Tudor’s experience with steadying ships and writing seasons.”

Tough start for Tudor

With Spurs not in FA Cup action this weekend, it means Tudor’s first game as interim head coach will be the high-stakes North London derby against Arsenal on February 22. That will also serve as his first home game in charge.

It will be a tough baptism of fire for the Croatian tactician as Fulham at Craven Cottage and Crystal Palace at home follow on from the north London derby. Then the Champions League round of 16 tie is either side of a trip to Liverpool to round off the 47-year-old’s first six fixtures as Tottenham interim boss.
