AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega could be back from his long-term injury layoff sooner than expected, giving Stefano Pioli another option to play with.

As has been reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), the Italian midfielder is flying through his recovery programme much faster than the medical staff expected and he may feature in the team very soon.

Milan’s main injury emergency is over now with players like Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori in the first team again, but Pobega’s return would give Pioli another option in midfield which could be important with more Europa League games likely to be coming Milan’s way.

Pobega had an operation in Finland in December 2023 and was expected to be out until the back end of April, but he could be back in training by the end of March’s international break. That would mean being available, presuming the rest of the recovery goes well, a month sooner than Pioli had expected.

Whilst Pobega was never expected to be a regular starter in the Milan midfield this season, he is a very handy rotational option and he could even have helped at centre-back earlier in the season if he was fit.
