It’s no coincidence that Matt Law, Ben Jacobs, Kaveh Solhekol and others all Tweeted the same news at the same time about Enzo Maresca.
Despite a bad run and some dark clouds gathering around Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea boss is apparently safe, and there are no considerations about replacing him.
But not all briefs are created equally, and Law seems to have better sources than his peers.
He added some much more juicy information in his full follow up piece today. One moment we noted was about the players at Stamford Bridge and what they’ve been told about the situation:
“Maresca retains the backing of the club’s ownership and the sporting directors, who are not panicking over the team’s mini-slump that has seen Chelsea pick up one point from their last three league games and lose to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, as well as Manchester United and Brighton,” Law wrote for the Daily Telegraph today.
“Furthermore, it is believed that players who joined the club in the summer were told that they could be confident that Chelsea would not make a mid-season change of head coach and that Maresca would be in charge for at least the entire season.”
That’s very interesting indeed. Of course we don’t think it would save Maresca if things really fell apart, but it’s more evidence that the club will do all they can to keep him in place.
We’ve said all along, even before these briefs, that the coach is likely safe until the end of the season. Unless we’re mathematically eliminated from the Champions League race in March or something equally catastrophic, it will be an end of season review as planned.
