Inter fear Denzel Dumfries will miss multiple months because of his ankle injury and are ready to intervene in January to find a new starting-caliber wing-back, although only at the right conditions, and have recently added Raoul Bellanova to their shortlist, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Nerazzurri are looking for somebody who would be ready to contribute right away. For that reason, they might avoid a talent. They have been keeping tabs chiefly on Brooke Norton-Cuffy, but they aren’t totally sold on his defensive abilities.
Bellanova has the advantage of having already spent a season at Inter, on loan from Cagliari in 2022/2023. He made 22 appearances at the time, mainly off the bench, assisting once. He wasn’t retained as he looked raw and didn’t concretely challenge Dumfries, even though he made a cameo in the UEFA Champions League final.
The fullback has leveled up in the ensuing campaigns at Torino and at Atalanta. La Dea could be open to selling him for a fat check, as they are fairly deep and have Marco Palestra waiting in the wings in the same position. The 25-year-old has totaled 2 goals and 22 helpers in 134 Serie A games. He’d surely be happy to return to San Siro in a bigger role.
While he might not have the upside of some of the options they are reportedly tracking, he’s the most seasoned and steady. The Bergamaschi generally don’t mind selling and reloading and are always keen on finding and grooming prospects, but it’d be unusual for them to part ways with a linchpin mid-season. The offer would have to be really worthy.
