Inter failed to cap off a triumphant Serie A campaign with a win as Hellas Verona held the champions to a goal-glutted 2-2 draw on the final day. But the result took the back seat tonight as the Nerazzurri fans felt obliged to display their gratitude to Steven Zhang at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Zhang failed to pay off his debt to Oaktree earlier this week, resulting in the club’s immediate takeover. Despite losing ownership at the hands of the American fund, everything the Chinese businessman did for Inter hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The Inter faithful refused to let Zhang go without a proper farewell. The Curva Nord unfolded a banner to wave goodbye to the Suning chairman, saying ‘Grazie Steven.’ The Nerazzurri supporters are aware of Zhang’s love for the club and all the effort he had put into reviving falling giants.

Verona spoiled Simone Inzaghi’s bid to end an astonishing season with a bang. Marko Arnautovic’s first-half brace in probably his last game for Inter was only enough for a draw as Tomas Suslov and Tijjani Noslin fired Marco Baroni’s side to their first league stalemate since mid-April.

With Zhang out of the picture, Inter brace up for an uncertain summer, though Oaktree will unlikely bring significant changes at Giuseppe Meazza. Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski will soon sign their contracts in Lombardy, as the club agreed their arrival before the Americans’ seizure.

Beppe Marotta will, in all likelihood, keep hold of his role as CEO. It means Inter will continue doing business as usual.
