Inter Milan superstar Lautaro Martinez has confirmed his desire to win the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Speaking to Tyc Sports via FCInterNews, the 27-year-old reiterated Inter’s ambition to add to their trophy cabinet.

Despite high expectations, Inter failed to win a trophy in Simone Inzaghi’s last season in charge.

Indeed, Napoli narrowly beat them to the Scudetto, while PSG thrashed them in the Champions League final.

However, it’s a new dawn at the San Siro under Cristian Chivu.

After a 1-1 draw against Monterrey on his touchline debut, Chivu has overseen back-to-back wins.

Inter fought back to beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1 before overcoming River Plate 2-0 last night.

Meanwhile, Lautaro failed to score as Francesco Pio Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni grabbed the spotlight.

Yet, he found the net in the opening two matches, including a stunning overhead kick against Urawa.

Lautaro Martinez Confirms Inter Milan Desire to Win Club World Cup

El Toro’s energy has been Inter’s driving force in the United States.

Indeed, the Argentine talisman has led by example and will try to stay the course in the knockouts.

Brazilian powerhouse Fluminense will test Inter’s credentials in the Round of 16.

Last night’s win over River Plate consolidated the team’s spirits after two troubled performances in the group phase.

“River are a team that play really well, they pressed very high,” Lautaro said after the game. “Then they dropped off a bit and that’s when we were maybe able to find more space.

“With them down to ten men, everything became smoother and easier.

“I come from there. I know what South American football is, what River is,” he added. “They play important matches, they make it hard for you, so you have to be up to the task.”

Moreover, Lautaro offered his verdict on the racial incident between Marcos Acuna and Denzel Dumfries.

“These things happen during games,” he stated. “We understand what happened today. It’s nothing, it stays on the pitch.”

Finally, he admitted what he aspires to in this tournament.

“To take Inter as far as possible. This competition is a real target for us,” El Toro concluded.
