There remains a doubt as to whether Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez can last the full two hours against PSG if the Champions League final goes the distance.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will certainly be fit for the Champions League final. There’s no doubt about that.
The Argentine has fully recovered from a thigh flexor problem that had plagued him throughout Inter’s Champions League semifinal tie against Barcelona.
Lautaro Martinez was in the Nerazzurri squad for their Serie A season-ender against Como.
However, the 27-year-old did not even start warming up to come on as a substitute.
Therefore, some worries about Martinez’s fitness have naturally emerged.
However, after the match, Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris assured that there were no issues.
And indeed, the plan was always to have Martinez only come on against Como if it was absolutely necessary. The priority was that he be at 100% for the final against PSG.
Nevertheless, there is no guarantee that the Argentine can truly put the lingering muscle issue he’s been dealing with behind him.
Martinez’s injury is the result of a long and exhausting season catching up with him. As such, it’s not necessarily something he can simply get over completely in a couple weeks.
That might not be a problem over the course of a ninety minute football match. Nevertheless, there’s no guarantee that’s all it will be.
Inter’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Barcelona went all the way to extra time. So could the final against PSG.
Accordingly, the Corriere note, doubts could creep in as far as Martinez’s availability if the final were to go the distance.
