Inter Milan could move for Boca Juniors defender Nicolas Valentini as a lower-cost alternative to Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Valentini has been a player on Inter’s radar for a while.

The 23-year-old was among the players who Nerazzurri Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin had scouted whilst he was in South America to monitor young talent in December of last year.

Baccin is the man who heads up Inter’s scouting operation in South America.

And Valentini’s contract situation with Boca could make it a very convenient time in which to move for the young Argentine defender.

Valentini is under contract with Boca until the end of December of this year.

The Argentine giants are hoping to convince the player to sign a new contract.

Moreover, the Corriere notes, Valentini is not in the squad for this evening’s league match against Godoy Cruz. That could signal Boca’s intention to freeze the 23-year-old out of the squad should he not sign a new deal.

And it could certainly spell a summer sale for Valentini.

Inter Consider Nicolas Valentini As Cheaper Alternative To Alessandro Buongiorno

Inter are one of the primary clubs with an interest in bringing Valentini to Europe, reports the Corriere.

And the Nerazzurri would have a specific idea for the Argentine.

One position that Inter are looking to strengthen in is the centre of the back three.

Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are the two main options in that role currently. Both have proven more than adept there this season – but both former Lazio defenders are well into their thirties.

Therefore, Inter want to sign a player for the future in the position.

Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno is Inter’s top target. But the Nerazzurri know that the Granata are unlikely to let the 24-year-old go for anything less than €40 million.

Therefore, Inter are also looking for players with a similar profile who would cost less.

And given Valentini’s height and physicality, the Corriere report, that is exactly how the Nerazzurri see the Argentine.
