Inter Milan are determined to make Manuel Akanji’s stay permanent, regardless of the conditions attached to his current deal, after the Swiss defender established himself as a key figure in Cristian Chivu’s back line.

Since arriving on loan from Manchester City, Manuel Akanji has delivered a series of assured performances.

His reliability and tactical flexibility have quickly made him one of the cornerstones of Inter’s defence during the first half of the season.

The Nerazzurri secured Akanji on a loan deal that includes a €15 million option to buy.

That clause would automatically become an obligation if Inter were to win the Scudetto. However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club’s intention is clear regardless of league outcomes.

Chivu has made full use of that versatility, alternating Akanji between roles depending on the opponent and tactical needs.
