Inter’s directors held a long meeting with coach Simone Inzaghi yesterday where they discussed the team’s mounting issues on and off the pitch and strategies to turn things around.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that all of CEO Beppe Marotta, Sporting Director Piero Ausilio, and Vice-President Javier Zanetti were present for what amounted to a round of crisis talks.

If Inter looked to be cruising after their emphatic win over AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana one week ago, the subsequent week has all but reversed this momentum against the Nerazzurri.

The confirmation that Milan Skriniar intends to leave presaged a disastrous 0-1 loss to Empoli in Serie A, in which the Slovakian was sent off for two reckless tackles.

Clearly things will have to be turned around, and they will have to be turned around as early as Saturday’s Serie A match against Empoli.

There are more issues than the Skriniar contract situation, and among the topics for discussion between Inzaghi and the directors were the situation of injury-hit striker Romelu Lukaku and the continued lack of form and playing time of Denzel Dumfries.

Inter’s season is hardly beyond rescuing at this moment in time, but the directors stressed to the coach that if decisive action isn’t taken, faltering out of the Champions League places in Serie A would be nothing short of a disaster.
