Inter Milan are facing potential competition to sign Parma defender Giovanni Leoni from top clubs in the Premier League.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan have made Giovanni Leoni one of their main targets for the rest of the summer transfer window.
The Nerazzurri have been eyeing up a deal for the teenage defender since last summer.
And the fact that Leoni thrived last season under Cristian Chivu has solidified Inter’s interest.
Meanwhile, AC Milan look to have pulled out of the race to sign Leoni. The Rossoneri are on the verge of completing a deal for another of Inter’s targets, Koni De Winter.
Milan’s exit from the race for Leoni is certainly a boost for Inter.
However, the Nerazzurri could still have to contend with competition from the Premier League.
The Corriere dello Sport report that Parma have already rejected a €35 million offer from a club in the English top flight. However, they report that it was not one of the biggest clubs in the league.
Leoni himself also showed little interest in making the move.
However, if one of the Premier League’s heavy-hitters such as Liverpool were to make a move, it could be a different story.
