Legendary former Inter Milan captain Beppe Bergomi has doubts about a move for Ademola Lookman as “players who leave Atalanta tend to struggle.”

Bergomi gave his thoughts in an interview with Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan are pushing to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian international is their top target in attack this summer.

The Nerazzurri have already made an offer to Atalanta for Lookman.

La Dea have rejected the initial bid, which Inter have not yet increased. However, the player himself reportedly wants to join.

Bergomi Skeptical Of Inter Lookman Links: “Players Who Leave Atalanta Tend To Struggle”

If Lookman were to arrive, he would certainly be a big name signing for Inter. The 27-year-old is a well-proven player in Serie A.

Therefore, the hope would be that Lookman would be the kind of signing that would instantly bolster the Inter starting eleven. Particularly if the Nerazzurri are to pay a big fee for him.

However, former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi isn’t so sure.

“Players who leave Atalanta have tended to struggle,” he noted.

“But with that said, he could be a useful player. I hope he ends up in a Nerazzurri shirt.”

However, Bergomi also cautioned that “then you have to change the system of play.”

The former Inter captain was certain that “you can’t leave out Lautaro or Thuram.”
