Inter Milan have identified Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup as a replacement for Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Parma’s Mandela Keita is the alternative in Inter’s search for a more defensively-minded midfielder.
Inter Milan are thinking about a shakeup in midfield, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The aim would be to bring in a player suitable for the central positions in the 3-4-2-1 formation that coach Cristian Chivu is aiming to transition the team to playing.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri want a physical, dynamic player with strong tackling and ball-winning ability. A midfielder who can cover extra ground behind the attack.
Midfielders Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski do not really fit the profile that Inter want in midfield. Both are more technical, creative players rather than defensively strong midfielders.
Therefore, Inter would like to find new clubs for both.
That won’t necessarily be easy. Asllani has rejected Real Betis, whilst no concrete offers have arrived from teams in Serie A.
Meanwhile, Zielinski’s age and relatively high wages of €4.5 million net per season would make the Polish international hard to shift on. But Inter are hoping for bids from Saudi Arabia.
And if Inter can shift both Asllani and Zielinski on, they are targeting Genoa’s Morten Frendrup according to the Gazzetta.
The Danish international has exactly the qualities that Inter and Chivu are seeking.
Alternatively, Parma midfielder Mandela Keita is also on Inter’s radar. The Belgian has already worked with Chivu, having been a regular under him at the Stadio Enrico Tardini.
