Beppe Marotta says Cesc Fabregas was a “possibility” for Inter Milan, and that Cristian Chivu is “not a fallback option.”

The Nerazzurri President spoke to Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He noted that Inter were not granted the possibility of signing Fabregas by Como.

It is hardly a secret that Inter Milan had considered Cesc Fabregas as a major candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach.

Reportedly, Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio had worked to personally convince the Spaniard.

However, there was always the key matter of whether or not Como would sanction the move.

Lariani President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri’s interest, and stated that his club would refuse to release the Spaniard.

Therefore, in the end, Inter moved for Cristian Chivu instead of Fabregas.

Marotta Acknowledges “Fabregas Was A Possibility” For Inter Milan – Adds “Chivu Not A Fallback”

Asked if Inter were going with their Plan B by appointing Cristian Chivu, Nerazzurri President admitted that “I’ve heard about skepticism, and even that there was confusion.”

“But we made a very precise choice,” he contended.

“We had a profile that aligned with the guidelines of the club and the ownership. Which were outlined at the start of the last season.”

“We were looking for a similar profile,” said Marotta.

“We explored carious possibilities,” the Inter President made clear.

“One possibility was Fabregas. However, he wasn’t made available to us.”

“So we opted for Chivu,” Marotta said. “Who’s not a fallback option.”

“Thanks to Parma’s willingness to work with us, we spoke and made plans with him. I hope that within a day or two it will become official.”
