Inter Milan Serie A Win Away To Udinese 'Fully Deserved' Despite Leaving It Late

There was nothing fortuitous about Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Udinese despite it coming in the final minutes.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the Nerazzurri’s dominance of the match in Udine in virtually all statistical categories.

Inter needed until the very final minutes to secure three points against Udinese yesterday.

Davide Frattesi’s winning goal arrived in stoppage time to give the Nerazzurri another push towards the Serie A title.

That could perhaps lead to the impression that Inter had luck on their side.

For Udinese, certainly, the feeling is that it was a very harsh result.

The Friulani, and particularly the back three and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye had done very well to hold out until that point.

But ultimately, the statistics paint a clear picture. Inter’s victory was nothing more than a reflection of the run of play.

Nothing Lucky About Last-Gasp Inter Serie A Win Vs Udinese

If anything, Inter could say that they were unfortunate to be behind at halftime.

The Nerazzurri had controlled play for much of the first half. There were chances and half-chances from the Nerazzurri.

But on the most telling opportunities, Friulani goalkeeper Okoye produced some excellent saves to keep a clean sheet going in at the interval.

The same cannot be said of Inter keeper Yann Sommer.

The Swiss had a real mix-up with teammate Denzel Dumfries to allow Lazar Samardzic’s deflected effort to dribble over the goalline.

But that gave Inter work to do in the second half.

The Nerazzurri immediately came out from the break with clear attacking intent.

That resulted first in a disallowed goal for Inter. And then, the Nerazzurri won a penalty from which they equalized.

Following that Inter kept pushing, keeping the tempo high as they attempted to carve out the decisive chance to score the winner.

The Nerazzurri were unsuccessful in their efforts. Until, that is, they weren’t.

But Inter were not riding their luck by any means.

The Nerazzurri had 77% of ball possession. They took 23 shots during the match, eight of which were on target.
