Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram has been named on the shortlist for this week’s Champions League player of the week.
The Frenchman scored a brace of two headers in Inter’s 2-0 win over Ajax on Wednesday.
Thuram continues his strong start to the season with the goals, which deservedly find him nominated for player of the week.
Also in contention for the award are Francisco Trincao, Marcus Rashford and Dusan Vlahovic.
All four of these players scored two goals in the opening round of games, whilst Vlahovic also picked up an assist – all from the bench.
The French forward matched a 23-year-old record for Inter against Ajax.
Thuram became just the second Inter player in history to score two headed goals in the same Champions League match.
The only time it happened before was in 2002, when Hernan Crespo scored twice with his head.
Coincidentally, this was also against Ajax, the same opposition faced by Thuram on Wednesday.
Vlahovic received his nomination for his performance in Juventus’ 4-4 draw with Dortmund.
Rashford was instrumental in Barcelona’s victory against Newcastle United and Trincao scored twice against minnows Kairat.
