Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi has reflected on the club’s Champions League final defeats against PSG and Man City in his autobiography.

Acerbi scored a historic goal for the Nerazzurri in last season’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

With Inter moments away from exiting the competition, the defender scored a goal to send the game to extra-time.

Davide Frattesi scored in the added half-hour to send Inter through to the final, where they lost 5-0 to PSG.

With quotes via FcInter1908, Acerbi wrote “In that moment, I thought about everything I had experienced.

“Lazio, Sassuolo, the illness, my first Champions League goal, the victories, the defeats,” he added, “my entire career summed up in a second.”

“Unfortunately,” he continued, “football doesn’t give anything away for free. We reached the final, yes. But the outcome wasn’t what we dreamed of.”

Inter Milan Defender Acerbi: ‘Two Finals Against PSG and Man City A Source Of Pride’

Despite the defeat to PSG and the one to Man City two years prior, Acerbi was proud of himself and his teammates.

“What I know is that I have nothing to reproach myself for. Not me, not us.

“We gave it our all,” he added, “And reaching the Champions League final twice in three years with this shirt, amidst a thousand difficulties, is a source of pride that nobody can take away.”

Inter’s 5-0 loss to PSG was the heaviest final defeat in the competition’s history and Acerbi did not refuse to acknowledge how disappointing it was.

“Anyone who knows football knows that the season had been long, exhausting and full of battles.

“And we were carrying some weight. In football, as in life, you don’t always win. Every time there’s a winner, there’s also a loser. It is part of the game.”

Acerbi’s current contract expires next summer and the 37-year-old could well be in his final season in Nerazzurri colours.

Since joining from Lazio in 2022, Acerbi has played 125 times in all competitions, scoring an impressive five goals.
