Inter Milan Summer Signing Delivers Verdict On River Plate Brutality: 'Went Into Every Challenge Like It Was Their Last'

Inter Milan newcomer Petar Sucic fared impressively after coming off the bench against River Plate last night.

Speaking to InterTV via FCInterNews, he offered his verdict on the intense match in Seattle.

At times, Lumen Field looked like a war zone.

Indeed, River Plate players had no mercy for their counterparts in the Nerazzurri shirt.

Tackles brimming with brutality and venom highlighted the Argentine team’s performance on either side of halftime.

However, Marcelo Gallardo’s team paid the price for an over-zealous approach in the second half.

Lucas Martinez Quarta and Gonzalo Montiel received red cards, paving the way for Inter’s victory.

On the other hand, Francesco Pio Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni scored for the Italian outfit.

Petar Sucic replaced Nicolo Barella just after the hour mark and helped Inter break the deadlock.

Indeed, his assist teed up Esposito for a crucial opener in the 72nd minute.

“I’m happy to have helped the team win, which is the most important thing,” said the midfielder.

“It was a very tough game because they go into every challenge like it’s the last one.

“We knew they’d be very aggressive, but I think we deserved to win and we’re happy.”

Inter headed into the knockout draw as a seeded team after beating River Plate to the top spot in Group E.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old admits he doesn’t know much about Inter’s first knockout rivals Fluminense.

“I haven’t seen much of them yet, but we have time to analyse the next match,” Sucic concluded.

The two sides will lock horns in the Round of 16 on Monday.

Despite Fluminense’s decent run in North America, Inter are huge pre-match favorites.

Indeed, Chivu’s charges are among the leading contenders to secure Club World Cup glory this summer.
