As the transfer window edges toward its conclusion, Manchester United may have found a new suitor for Jadon Sancho, with reports from Italy suggesting that Inter Milan are lining up the winger as a backup option should they fail to land Ademola Lookman.
With Atalanta standing firm on their valuation of Lookman—having already rejected two bids—Inter are now considering alternatives, and Sancho has emerged as a cost-effective fallback. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter’s next bid for Lookman is expected to exceed £40 million, but they’re preparing for the possibility of failure in negotiations. Enter Sancho.
The report claims Sancho’s price tag of just £22 million is turning heads in Milan. That figure is notably lower than what Inter would spend on either Lookman or Christopher Nkunku, and it could represent a much-needed financial boost for United, who are still looking to balance the books after a summer of calculated but costly moves, including a big-money bid for Benjamin Sesko.
Sancho’s time at Old Trafford has been riddled with inconsistency, off-field issues, and a breakdown in relations with the coaching staff. Despite early promise and flashes of brilliance, the former Borussia Dortmund star has struggled to cement a place in the first team under multiple managers.
With Amorim focused on rebuilding the squad around hungry, hard-working players who fit his high-energy system, Sancho no longer appears to be part of United’s long-term plans.
A sale would not only remove his hefty wages from the books but also allow United to redirect funds into priority areas like midfield depth or an additional striker, should the Sesko deal fall through.
While Juventus were once considered the frontrunners, comments from their general director Damien Comolli have poured cold water on that scenario. Citing confidence in their current wide options, the Turin side appear to have closed the door on Sancho.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund, the club where Sancho made his name, are reportedly interested in a loan move, but that’s not United’s preferred outcome. A temporary deal would only delay the inevitable and likely see Sancho leave on a free next summer.
From a Manchester United perspective, an Inter Milan move for Jadon Sancho would be ideal. It offers the club a chance to recoup a meaningful fee, avoid losing the player for nothing next summer, and put the final stamp on a chapter that never truly took flight.
With new energy, a clear tactical vision, and a squad being reshaped under Amorim, United need players all-in on the project. If Inter are ready to make the deal happen, United should welcome it with open arms.
