Javier Zanetti feels Inter Milan have gotten a “balanced” Champions League draw, and Atletico Madrid will be “difficult.”
The Nerazzurri Vice-President spoke to Movistar, via FCInterNews, after his team’s Champions League draw yesterday.
Yesterday, Inter learned their opponents for the Champions League league phase.
There were a few names that stood out among the eight teams that Inter will be facing.
The Nerazzurri will take on Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal. Then, they will take on the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Atletico Madrid.
Inter will hardly be underestimating teams like Slavia Prague, Union Saint-Gilloise, or Kairat Almaty. But it is the European heavy-hitters who they’ll see as the tougher matches.
Inter Vice-President Zanetti gave his thoughts on the draw. “It’s a balanced draw,” he said.
“Every match is difficult,” he added. “Especially in a competition like the Champions League.”
Zanetti made clear, meanwhile, that “we have to think about it one match at a time.”
Then, the Inter executive gave his thoughts on facing Atletico Madrid. “We know they’re a great team, with an top coach who I know very well.”
“He was a teammate of mine,” Zanetti said of Atletico coach Diego Simeone. “We’re friends.”
“I know some of their staff, like Vivas, Gustavo Lopez, and a lot of their players.”
“It will be a difficult match,” Zanetti anticipated. “Particularly since we’ll be playing at their home ground.”
