This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that not only would the Frenchman become Inter’s second-highest earner, but there would be no release clause in a new deal.

At the moment, Marcus Thuram is under contract with Inter on the same deal that he signed when he joined in the summer of 2023.

The Frenchman signed a five-year deal when he joined on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Thuram earns around €6 million net per season at Inter as things stand.

Inter Milan Work To Lock Down Marcus Thuram – No More Release Clause

The thorniest issue in Thuram’s current contract with Inter Milan is the existence of a release clause.

That clause is worth €85 million. Therefore, if another club were to trigger it with an offer of that size, Inter would not be able to avoid selling Thuram.

And that is no mere hypothetical. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are among Thuram’s suitors.

And the 27-year-old is certainly among Inter’s absolutely among Inter’s absolutely key players.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri have made getting rid of that release clause a priority.

As such, Inter are offering Thuram a contract extension.

This would bump the France international’s wages up. He currently earns around €6 million net per season. But Inter are offering €7 million net per season on a new deal.

That would make Thuram Inter’s second highest earner. Behind club captain Lautaro Martinez, but with higher wages than the €6.5 million net per season that Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu earn.

The Gazzetta note how Inter can utilize the Growth Decree in their efforts to lock Thuram down.

With Barella and Calhanoglu, it costs Inter €12 million net per season gross to pay their net wages.

However, Inter can offer Thuram a pay increase while paying just €9.1 million net per season, because of the tax benefits of the Growth Decree.
