Milan are no longer in contention to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool this summer, as the Uruguayan now looks set to join Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League for a fee well beyond the Rossoneri’s price range.

The former Benfica striker had been of interest to several Serie A sides this summer, including Juventus and to Napoli, who instead decided to focus on the signing of Italy international Lorenzo Lucca

Milan, who are also still on the hunt for new attacking additions this summer, had also expressed an interest in picking up the 26-year-old, who is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, but have since been outpriced by Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal.

Milan looking at Vlahovic and Hojlund after Darwin Nunez agreement

According to reports from various outlets including Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool and Al-Hilal reached an agreement for Darwin’s transfer at a price of €65m including bonuses.

That fee is more than double the cost of the most expensive Serie A signing this summer, which is currently Sam Beukema, who joined Napoli at a cost of €31m from Bologna earlier this window.

It has also been reported that Darwin’s salary requests would have been out of any Serie A club’s price range.

Milan, meanwhile, are still looking at the signing of a new centre-forward to compete and rotate with Santiago Gimenez for 2025-26.

Wednesday’s reports indicate that Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic remains a firm favourite, with other potential options in Breel Embolo and Rasmus Hojlund.
