RB Leipzig’s Belgian striker Loïs Openda could become one of the most talked-about names of the summer transfer window.
Open to a transfer
While Leipzig is determined to keep hold of the player, they are not completely closing the door to a departure should suitable offers arrive. The club is managing the transfer process carefully due to the 80-90 million euro release clauses in Openda’s contract. However, there is talk that negotiations could take place at around 70 million euros.
Juventus plans to take steps to add Openda to its squad. The 70 million euro transfer fee set by Leipzig seems high in respect of Juventus’ budget.
Spurs have shown interest
The Boy Hotspur understands that Tottenham and arch rivals Arsenal are closely monitoring the Belgian striker’s situation. Liverpool and Chelsea have Openda among their options to strengthen their attacking line-up. Bayern Munich is also evaluating Openda as part of their future forward rotation.
Our View
At Spurs, a bullet needs to be bitten in respect of their frontline. The current squad now has a front three severely lacking in the firepower of previous seasons. Replacing the generational talent of Kane was never going to be easy; we all know that.
However, Richarlison looks as if he may carry on scoring once in a blue moon, perhaps forever. Dominic Solanke strikes everyone as a nice guy, but his goals have also been few and far between. As for Sonny, we are sadly looking at a player who has rapidly become a shadow of his former self.
RB Leipzig’s Belgian striker Loïs Openda isn’t a bad bet in the current climate. With 33 goals in 66 Bundesliga appearances, he certainly knows where the net is.
It appears pretty obvious that Daniel Levy needs to have one of his taking stock moments (again) and decide what the best path of action he ought to take.
What is certain is that this project, like so many before it, has run out of steam.
