Italian Media Argue Inter Milan Made “Gross Error” Keeping Milan Skriniar In August Without Extending Contract

Inter’s decision not to sell Milan Skriniar last summer when they had zero assurances that he’d extend his contract now looks like nothing less than a “gross error” in hindsight, in the view of Italian media.

This is the contention in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who characterize the Nerazzurri’s approach to Skriniar’s situation as a major blunder for the club directors.

Inter had multiple opportunities to sell Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer, but always decided that the offer was not high enough, and eventually that they could not deprive themselves of a player who is so important to them on the pitch late on in the transfer window.

This meant that the Nerazzurri put themselves in a position where it as absolutely vital that they convince the Slovakian on a contract extension during the season, or else risk losing him for free next summer, or at a cut-price fee in January.

This worst-case scenario looks to have played out, although it is not exactly clear when and under what circumstances Skriniar will actually leave the club.
