Wingback Federico Dimarco has come in for criticism for his performance for Inter Milan against Hellas Verona.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, brand the 26-year-old as “too casual” on both sides of the ball in the 2-2 Serie A thriller.

Dimarco started on the left flank for Inter in yesterday’s match at the Bentegodi.

The Italian international has been decisive from that wingback role on numerous occasions for the Nerazzurri this season.

But yesterday evening was not one of them.

Dimarco was not really able to influence the attack much.

The 26-year-old is often a player who drifts around finding pockets of space, wreaking havoc in the opposition defensive structure.

But yesterday evening there was not much of that from Dimarco.

Whether due to a lack of physical condition or the absence of his usual speed of thought, the left-wingback was largely anonymous when Inter had possession of the ball.

Federico Dimarco Criticized For Performance On Both Sides Of The Ball For Inter Vs Verona

There were no telling deliveries or attempts at goal from Dimarco.

That is the principle value that the Italian brings to the Nerazzurri when he is at his best.

And then, Tuttosport argues, Dimarco was also poor on the defensive side of things as well.

Verona ratcheted up the tempo of the match both with their high pressing and with an extremely proactive approach in possession.

And it was a pace that Dimarco never really came up to.

The 26-year-old had the likes of Jackson Tchatchoua and Stefan Mitrovic to deal with on his flank.

And Dimarco never really restricted either Gialloblu player’s influence.

This allowed Verona’s attack a lot of space in which to interchange quickly and cause problems for Inter throughout the first half.

In the view of Tuttosport, Dimarco was one of the Inter players who looked like they were perhaps ready for the season to be over.
