Legendary Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro backs Inter Milan to prevail in the Champions League final at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Nerazzurri have fallen short on the domestic stage this season. They failed to defend the Serie A title, with Napoli pipping them in the final stages. They also suffered defeats to AC Milan in the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.
Nevertheless, Simone Inzaghi’s men have been almost impeccable in Europe. They finished the group stage in an impressive fourth place (among 36 participants), beating the likes of Arsenal, while conceding a single goal in eight fixtures.
Inter then breezed past Feyenoord in the Round of 16, before stunning Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. This set the stage for an epic showdown against Barcelona that left the fans on the edge of their seats.
After two surreal contests plus extra-time, the Italian giants prevailed 7-6 on aggregate to punch their ticket to the final.
The Nerazzurri will now clash heads with the equally impressive PSG who have been the bane of Premier League giants.
Therefore, this promises to be a clash for the ages, so those capable of purchasing UCL Final tickets surely won’t regret it, as they could be in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Although he didn’t find much success during his time at the Meazza, Cannavaro is hoping to see Inter triumph on Saturday.
The 2006 World Cup-winning captain not only wants to see the Beneamata lift the trophy, but also expects it from an objective standpoint.
Nevertheless, the retired defender warns that PSG could represent a sterner foe than Barcelona.
As he explains, the Ligue 1 champions boast a more formidable defence compared to the Catalans’ shaky backline.
“As an Italian, I hope that Inter bring home the cup,” said the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner in his interview with Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.
“For me, Inter are the favourites, even if they are facing a solid team.
“In addition to being strong in attack, PSG are also defensively sound compared to Barcelona. Hence, it will be more difficult.”
As an old friend and teammate of Lilian Thuram, Cannavaro is counting on the Frenchman’s son, Marcus, to lead Inter to glory.
“I hope that Marcus Thuram scores. I sent him a message the other day. Moreover, I also hope for him that Inter can bring the Cup to Italy because we need it.”
