Carlos Alcaraz's coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has commented on the vacation period his charge is taking after winning the Roland Garros title. The world No. 2 – just as after previous titles – decided to take a few days off for rest and relaxation with his family and friends before returning to the courts.
Alcaraz has always shown his desire to balance his career without completely neglecting his personal life. A year ago – after winning the French Open title – he went on vacation to Ibiza for several days instead of immediately preparing for Wimbledon. The Spaniard's time off paid off, as he returned to win the SW19 title for the second consecutive year.
At 22 years old, 'Carlitos' has already achieved 5 Grand Slam titles, at least one for the past four consecutive years. However, he hasn't shied away from going on vacation and partying with his friends and loved ones when his schedule allowed. This time, what better way to celebrate a new major title than by enjoying the beaches of Ibiza for a few days?
While 'Carlitos' seeks a period of disconnection, his coach, former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero, responded to an interview with 'El Larguero,' where he was asked "where Carlos is" just two days after the title. "Disconnecting," Ferrero said with a laugh. "Yesterday I told him to have a good time, that he deserved it, to remember that he's a tennis player at all times, and that, well... we knew these days would come."
"We already know how he is, I mean, [the vacation days] do him good. And then when he comes back, he comes back well in his head, he comes back renewed, and it's not about partying; I'm sure in the end, it's about that disconnection itself, about being with his friends, not thinking about tennis, being a normal 22-year-old kid, within his normality. And that's it, then he has to get back to work with enthusiasm, and start thinking about 'getting down to business,' working, and thinking about what's next."
Ferrero has been working with Alcaraz since 2019 – when the young Spaniard was just 16 years old. Since then, he has been key to Alcaraz's breakthrough on Tour, where he has achieved a total of 20 titles – including 5 Slams and 7 Masters 1000s.
