Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has found himself on his third consecutive loan spell, being shipped off to Aston Villa this summer.
Previously a public bust-up with then-manager Erik ten Hag saw the former England international exiled to his previous club, Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho spent the rest of the 2023/24 season with his former club, however failed to live up to his last stint in the Bundesliga, ultimately returning to Old Trafford.
Deadline day 20024 saw the winger head out on his second loan stint, this time closer to home, headed to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea.
Although The Blues secured a £25 million obligation to buy, they opted to pay a £5 million penalty fee to get out of the deal after Sancho rejected their offer of a £180,000 per week contract.
As such, the door was open this summer, and with Sancho entering the final year of his contract, it marked the last chance United could case in on their struggling winger.
Whilst conversations emerged between his agent and Juventus and AS Roma, nothing materialised, seeing a loan to Villa Park as his only option, and United’s only way of getting him off their books.
However, his contract is still set to end unless an extension is agreed, which, without the extension, would see him leave on a free.
Now, talkSPORT has revealed that despite holding the option to extend his contract by 12 months without renegotiating, United aren’t looking at doing this.
The Red Devils are reportedly looking at allowing the winger leave in the summer for free instead of risking having to pay his wage for another year should they not be able to offload him in the summer.
The club have seemingly accepted being unable to claw back any of the £75 million that they bought the winger for back in 2022, looking to just cut their losses instead.
Things may have looked different had his spell at Villa shown signs of looking successful; however, with only six appearances so far, averaging at 40 minutes each, it’s not looking likely to draw interest of a range of suitors.
As such, United look to have done a clever piece of business in not including a break clause in the loan, which would have allowed Aston Villa to return Sancho to Carington in the winter window.
