Jadon Sancho set to join Palmeiras

Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho appears set to complete a surprise move to Brazilian giants Palmeiras.

The 26-year-old has been without a club since his contract expired at the end of June, bringing a disappointing five-year association with United to a close.

Sancho had been linked with another return to Borussia Dortmund and several other destinations, but Palmeiras now appear to have moved decisively to secure his signature.

Reporter Alfonso Partidor reported on X that the England international was already travelling to Brazil ahead of the proposed move.

“Jadon Sancho is already on the plane heading to Palmeiras,” Partidor reported. “We will have official confirmation from the club shortly.”

Neither Palmeiras nor Sancho has officially announced the agreement yet, meaning its precise terms remain unclear.

However, the journey described in the report would indicate that negotiations have reached their final stage and that confirmation may not be far away.

A move to Sao Paulo would give Sancho the opportunity to draw a line beneath a difficult period in England and rebuild his career in a completely different environment.

United signed the winger from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 following two years of intense interest, but he never consistently reproduced the confidence or attacking influence that had made him one of Europe’s most exciting young players in Germany.

His relationship with the club deteriorated sharply after a public dispute with Erik ten Hag in 2023. Sancho subsequently returned to Dortmund on loan and helped them reach the Champions League final before spending the following two seasons with Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Those temporary departures never produced the permanent solution United had wanted.

Chelsea elected not to complete their proposed purchase of the winger for £25 million in 2025, while Sancho returned from Villa Park before United confirmed that he would leave when his contract expired.

That outcome ensured United received no transfer fee for a player who had once represented one of their largest investments, completing one of the most disappointing pieces of business in the club’s recent history.

Palmeiras would nevertheless be acquiring a player whose talent has never been in doubt. Sancho remains capable of creating chances, combining in tight spaces and operating from either wing when playing with confidence.

Brazil would represent an unexpected next chapter, but perhaps also the clean break he requires. If Partidor’s report is followed by official confirmation, Sancho will finally have found his first permanent home since leaving United.
