Scrumhalf Jake Gordon dedicated his career to Australian rugby through the 2027 Rugby World Cup while rejecting financial opportunities abroad.
The 31-year-old Jamie Gordon will continue representing Joe Schmidt's Wallabies through the 2027 Rugby World Cup while remaining part of the New South Wales Waratahs squad.
The nine Tests starter Gordon will challenge McDermott for the starting scrumhalf position as Australia takes on the British & Irish Lions in July and August.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t see what was overseas,” said Gordon in a press statement. “I thought the opportunity with Joe staying on for another year and possibly being able to play the Lions series and a home World Cup was too good to pass up.”
“Last year, I thought I had a decent year at the test level. I’m hungry to go better,” said Gordon in a press conference.
The Wallabies coaching group under Joe Schmidt helped Gordon transform his playing style into something simpler.
“Joe's guidance helped me understand what type of performance was needed, and I found it very useful,” said Gordon. “The entire coaching staff worked exceptionally well, which led to noticeable improvements across the team,” said Gordon.
Schmidt decided to continue as head coach from mid-2026 up until Les Kiss takes over as coach.
Multiple Wallabies have renewed their commitments to the national team through new agreements that now include Len Ikitau and Fraser McReight along with Nick Frost, Harry Wilson, and Lachlan Lonergan.
Gordon predicts improved Wallabies performance with extended future success throughout our progression journey. “My intention is to stay with the team to help out and work toward earning successful victories,” said Gordon.
