Former England international Jamie Carragher has made a bold comparison to a current Three Lions star and Zinedine Zidane.

England are among the favourites to win Euro 2024 and Carragher believes the hype is justified.

With a squad featuring Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham and Manchester City’s Phil Foden, England are packed in midfield, ahead of the tournament kick off next month.

Bellingham looks certain to be named as La Liga player of the season on the back of scoring 19 league goals in his debut campaign in Spain.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been compared to Zidane in recent months but Carragher believes Foden is the closest to the former France schemer.

“Jude Bellingham arrives at the Euros as one of the best players in the world, a possible Ballon d’Or winner”, as per his column in the Daily Telegraph.

“Bellingham is a phenomenon, but for me Foden is the most naturally talented footballer in England. I’m not sure England has ever had a player like Foden.

“The highest praise I can offer is when I watch Foden and see that first touch, control and balletic movement in tight spaces, the first players who spring to mind are Zidane and Iniesta.”

Bellingham is expected to be given an extended break before joining up with England at the start of June.

Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1 will delay his flight to England ahead of friendlies against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland.
