Manchester United have had a successful summer when it comes to transfers this season, with Bryan Mbuemo, Senne Lammens and Matheus Cunha have all succeeded since arriving at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils also signed Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon, who remain works in progress in a summer window that saw the club spend over £200 million on player arrivals.

However, this still represents a successful few months of work for United director of football Jason Wilcox, who took on the role earlier this summer, replacing Dan Ashworth after a short spell at Old Trafford.

Now, news has emerged that Wilcox actually led the approach for one of Chelsea’s midfielder.

The Daily Mail have reported that Wilcox made an enquiry to Chelsea for the services of midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Formerly of Southampton, the 21-year old has had his injury issues since arriving in South London for a fee of £53 million in the summer of 2023.

Snubbing Liverpool to make the move happen, it has not been the spell at the five-time Premier League champions that the one-time Belgium international expected.

The news comes after reports that initially came out explaining that Lavia was offered as part of the transfer of Alejandro Garnacho that took place this summer, which now appear to be false.

Chelsea are said to be in full support of Lavia as he recovers from his latest injury setback, the tenth since he arrived at the Blues, a total that has seen him miss 79 games for the club in just two and a half seasons.

Whether Chelsea plan on retaining Romeo Lavia long-term given his consistent injury woes is unknown at this time, however United have seemingly shifted their focus elsewhere in the hunt for key midfielders.
