Jaydan Kamason is set to continue his stay at Manchester United after signing a new contract with the Red Devils.

Taking to Instagram, the 19-year-old confirmed the signing, posting a picture of the momentous occasion.

Alongside the post, the right-back wrote: “Proud moment for me and family to sign a new long-term contract at this special club. We thank God and keep pushing. More to come, just a matter of timing.

Manchester United have also announced the news on their official website, confirming the contract will see him at Old Trafford until 2028, with an option for an extra 12 months.

But who is Jaydan Kamason, and why is this new contract an exciting thing for the club?

Jaydan Kamason and his historic path with Manchester United

Born on 8th December 2006 in England, Kamason joined Stockport Vikings from a young age and had already caught United’s eye before hitting double-digits.

At the age of 10, he was scouted by Manchester United’s Emerging Talents Programme (ETP), a community-based initiative to scout out roughly 12,000 children annually across Greater Manchester.

The ETP engages with 500 primary schools, 200 secondary schools, and hundreds of junior teams, providing coaching to talented young stars before they join the academy structure.

Jaydan Kamason marked the start of this whole initiative, being the first-ever graduate of the programme, earning a professional contract.

As such, he joined the full academy in July 2017, signing his professional contract in December 2023.

His signing was accompanied with pride from the club, not just for securing the talented defender, but also for the success of the ETP, with then-academy director Nick Cox calling it “a landmark moment that showcases the exceptional quality of work.”

Having joined the Under-18s side at the start of the 2023/24 season, Kamason began to tentatively feature under Adam Lawrence, but his six appearances brought strong performances to the side.

While his game time was limited, he was still a part of the Under-18s success in winning the Under-18s Premier League and League Cup for the double.

A year later, in the 2024/25 campaign, he was already establishing himself in the Under-18s and Under-21s, grabbing two goals and six assists in 31 games across the two sides.

Two key moments defined his season as he scored an incredible late equaliser against Arsenal in the Under-18s FA Youth Cup Quarter-Final and provided two assists in a 5-1 win over Chelsea, once more in the FA Youth Cup.

Last summer saw him join the senior team on their post-season tour of Asia, making his first team debut in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, against the ASEAN All Stars, which United ultimately lost 1-0.

Why does the new contract matter for Manchester United?

With United signing Kamason for another two years, it shows their intent to keep hold of him at a time when the club are reviewing everything, sending players on loan and even dropping some academy stars.

In the first team, Michael Carrick has Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui at his disposal as right-backs, so with only two options, he has a clear opportunity to be third in line for the role.

Also, Kamason is only 19 years old, whereas Dalot is 27 and Mazraoui is 28, meaning there’s no immediate progression plan for long-term succession.

This allows Kamason to learn from the right-back pair, able to step in when needed, which nearly happened in May 2025.

As Dalot was injured and Mazraoui was being rested for the Europa League Semi-Finals against Athletic Club, Kamason was expected to make his start against Brentford under Ruben Amorim.

However, Patrick Dorgu was put on the right with Harry Amass on the left as the Portuguese manager deployed dynamic wing-backs over full-backs.

The new contract also matters internally, however, as it validates the whole ETP initiative for having found genuine long-term talent.

As such, Jaydan Kamason’s new contract is far more than just more business from the United academy.

It marks the latest chapter of a genuinely distinct pathway through the club, from grassroots teams into the senior side.
