Tottenham Hotspur defeated Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first of the Europa League semi-finals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur face a daunting trip to the Arctic Circle to cross swords with Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday evening.

It is a massive game for both much-maligned Ange Postecoglou and Spurs as a whole after what has been a torrid domestic season which sees them languishing 16th in the Premier League. Having entirely shifted their focus to the Europa League, the Lilywhites hope they can take the form from their 3-1 first-leg victory and produce a professional display at the home of Bodo/Glimt.

Ange Postecoglou’s side would have loved to keep a clean sheet and take the three-goal lead to Norway for the second leg. However, that didn’t happen as Bodo/Glimt pulled a goal back seven minutes from normal time, keeping themselves and the tie alive.

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has now predicted the Lilywhites’ chances of winning in the second leg and advancing to the finale. He has claimed Spurs will find it difficult to play at the Norwegian side’s home, although the English pundit backed his former club to get a goal and kill the tie.

“Because I think they’ll [Tottenham] score. I think they will yeah I think they’re going to score,” Jermaine Jenas said on talkSPORT show.

“So, I think they’re gonna be fine I think they are gonna have their moments where they’re gonna be put under huge pressure, but I think if you look at almost like the Frankfurt game as a bit of a case study they were excellent.

“They were very good in that game and they’ve shown the ability to maybe go to a different style that we haven’t seen them play really in the Premier League.”

Indeed, the Frankfurt second leg was a fine example of Tottenham having another side to their game under Ange. When it came down to defending the lead, which was given in the first half by Dominic Solanke from the penalty spot, the entire team stood up and defended extremely well against Frankfurt in Germany.

It was a rare occasion where we witnessed this Spurs team defending resolutely and succeeding in keeping a clean sheet. Ange’s boys have to take a leaf out of that book and do something similar in Norway on Thursday. Bodo/Glimt will back themselves to cause an upset at their own patch, having won six European games at home this season.

Kjetil Knutsen’s side play their home games on a plastic turf, which could prove difficult for Tottenham players to adapt. That said, our players have to be extremely disciplined, resilient and smart if they intend to overcome the Scandinavian side and advance to the final.
