Joaquin Seys of interest to Manchester United

Manchester United’s search for defensive reinforcements has taken another turn as the summer transfer window enters its final stages.

The left-back position remains an area that needs attention, with Luke Shaw currently the only recognised senior option in the role.

Patrick Dorgu has been pushed further forward by Michael Carrick, limiting the number of natural alternatives available to the manager.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can both provide cover on the left when required, but United are still exploring a more permanent solution.

The Reds had previously focused heavily on Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, only to see that route closed off.

Manchester United keeping tabs on Joaquin Seys

The Sun are now reporting that Manchester United are now keeping tabs on Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys.

Joaquin Seys has emerged as a potential alternative after Newcastle made it clear that Hall will not be sold this summer, even for the reported £60 million figure that had been associated with his availability.

The Belgian defender is the same age as Hall at 21 and has already established himself as a regular for Club Brugge, making 97 appearances for the Belgian side.

His performances have also earned international recognition, with Seys included in Belgium’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

He featured during their quarter-final defeat to eventual champions Spain last month, further raising his profile after an impressive season at club level.

United are not the only Premier League side showing interest.

Arsenal and Aston Villa have also made enquiries about Seys following extensive scouting, while Newcastle are monitoring the situation despite currently sitting behind those three clubs in the race.

Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto are also understood to be interested in the versatile full-back, giving Club Brugge a potentially competitive market for his services.

Seys’ emergence comes after United’s pursuit of Hall hit a dead end.

Newcastle have reportedly rejected United’s approach and remain unwilling to consider selling their defender.

The Reds have also previously identified Antonee Robinson as another option for the position, meaning Seys is now one of several names being considered as United attempt to strengthen at left-back.

The need for another option has become more pressing with Shaw’s age and injury history, while Dorgu’s deployment higher up the pitch has left United relying on Dalot and Mazraoui for additional cover.

For now, United have made their interest in Seys known, with the 21-year-old’s 97 appearances for Club Brugge and growing international experience making him an intriguing alternative after Hall was placed out of reach.
