The 2026 summer transfer window has proven tricky to navigate for Manchester United so far.

With players reporting back for pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 season, the Red Devils are yet to confirm a signing.

The club looked ready to finalise the move to bring in Brazilian midfielder Ederson after agreeing a deal with Atalanta, but that appears to have collapsed. Manchester United sources may continue to preach that a deal will go ahead, but the situation appears bleak.

However, one signing will soon be confirmed after Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos completed a Manchester United medical. The Red Devils have snapped up the 22-year-old in a £50 million deal, but there is still work to be done if they want to achieve their window goals.

One player the club have longstanding interest in is Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi. Fellow Premier League side Newcastle are all set to bring in the Freiburg midfielder, but it appears Manzambi himself is the final hurdle.

According to Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards on X, Eddie Howe’s side have not yet finalised a deal to sign Johan Manzambi. The reason for this is that the 20-year-old has not yet made his decision on his future, despite personal terms not being an issue.

It’s a worrying hold-up for Newcastle, with Manchester United potentially sniffing around. The Red Devils haven’t actively sought after the signing of Manzambi this summer, but following their missing out on other targets, Michael Carrick’s side could always swoop in and hijack the transfer.

For now, Johan Manzambi is still on course to join Newcastle, but the hold-up will naturally interest Manchester United fans, as they themselves assess their options.
