Jose Mourinho celebrates football management milestone

Manchester United’s modern history is filled with larger-than-life managers, but few have left a mark as unmistakable as Jose Mourinho.

Even years after his Old Trafford spell, his career milestones continue to resonate with United supporters.

Trophy counts, touchline theatrics and relentless mentality have defined his journey across Europe.

Every chapter adds to a legacy that remains closely followed in Manchester.

Another landmark moment has now been added to that story.

That milestone arrived on Wednesday night as Jose Mourinho recorded the 750th victory of his managerial career, reaching the landmark after a 2-0 win over Farense in the Portuguese Cup.

The result ensured Benfica’s place in the quarter-finals and provided the perfect setting for a personal achievement that only a select few coaches in football history can boast.

After the final whistle at the Algarve stadium, Mourinho marked the occasion in the dressing room alongside his players and staff, where he was presented with a special commemorative jersey.

Despite the scale of the achievement, the former Manchester United boss made it clear that he has no intention of dwelling on past success.

Posting on Instagram after the match, Mourinho wrote: “750 victories. Which one was the most important? The first? Benfica-Belenenses? The Champions League final FC Porto-Monaco? The second Champions League final Inter-Bayern? Today’s, Farense-Benfica? No! The next one! The 751st! Let’s work for the next one.”

The message summed up the mentality that defined his time at Old Trafford and beyond, relentless, demanding and always focused on what comes next.

For United fans, Mourinho’s name still sparks debate.

His tenure at the club delivered silverware, including the Europa League and League Cup, but also divided opinion over style and long-term direction.

Yet milestones like this underline why he was trusted with the job in the first place.

Few managers can point to multiple Champions League triumphs, league titles across different countries and now 750 career wins.

He joined Benfica in September following his dismissal from Besiktas, stepping back into Portuguese football where his managerial journey first began at the elite level.

The Portuguese Cup run is offering him a chance to add further silverware, while also reasserting his authority after recent setbacks elsewhere.

The celebration against Farense was low-key by Mourinho’s standards, but the message was unmistakable.

Milestones matter, but only as fuel for the next challenge.

It is a philosophy Manchester United fans know all too well from his time at Old Trafford, one built on pressure, expectation and the constant pursuit of victory.

With 750 wins now behind him, Mourinho has already turned his focus to the next target, proving that the hunger which once drove United’s serial winner remains very much alive.
