Jose Mourinho Tipped to Target Roma Star by British Media

There’s a remote chance for former Roma coach Jose Mourinho to touch down at Stamford Bridge for the third time. With Chelsea parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino after just one year, the ‘Special One’ has quickly become an attractive name in the British media. 

Across two spells in West London, Mourinho won eight major trophies, including three Premier League titles. It didn’t take long before the sacked Roma boss became a hot prospect for the Blues after two underwhelming seasons under the new American ownership. 

It’s a long shot, but the 61-year-old remains an outside candidate to take the job. But if it happens, Mourinho could raid Serie A to put his stamp on a bloated Chelsea squad. And Roma wouldn’t be spared of the veteran’s potential spending spree. 

Tammy Abraham swapped Chelsea for Roma in 2021 after failing to establish regular playing time in his homeland. His career at the Stadio Olimpico took off almost instantly before a long-term injury curtailed his momentum, keeping him on the sidelines for nearly a year.

Mourinho played a significant role in Abraham’s affirmation at Roma. The par developed a strong bond, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Portuguese return to Rome to ask for his services. In fact, he might even if his coaching journey continues in Saudi Arabia, as recently rumored. 

Another Serie A star touted for a move back to the Premier League is Milan defender Fikayo Tomori. During Mourinho’s previous stint at Chelsea, the Englishman was part of the youth academy before breaking into the first-team squad. 

Therefore, Roma may not be the only Italian club to fall victim to Mourinho’s recruitment plan at his new club. Let’s not forget his love for Romelu Lukaku, whose season-long loan in the capital seems destined to end.
