Jose Mourinho wants to sign Marcus Rashford

Jose Mourniho is on the brink of returning to Real Madrid for a second stint as manager as Los Blancos have finally found a replacement for Xabi Alonso.

Alvaro Arbeloa stepped up as interim manager back in January 2026, however, with the season now coming to an end, Mourinho is understood to be taking charge.

The Portuguese manager is set to leave Benfica after his first season back at the club, having led them to a top-three finish just behind Sporting CP and Portuguese champions FC Porto.

Now, The Special One will be headed back to the Spanish capital, 13 years after he left his first stint as manager there, and already, he has some plans for recruitment.

The Independent reporter Miguel Delaney has revealed in his Inside Football newsletter that Mourinho is eyeing up Marcus Rashford after his year-long loan at Barcelona, as relayed by Spanish publication, Sport.

Barcelona have the option to make his loan spell permanent for £26 million, however ase understood to be keen to negotiate a second loan or a lower fee with Manchester United.

Rashford has shown his ability to deliver in LaLiga after scoring 14 goals and grabbing 14 assists in 48 games to help Barca retain their LaLiga title for a second year running.

As such, Mourinho is reportedly keen to reunite with the attacker, after having first worked together at Old Trafford.

Under Mourinho, Marcus Rashford made 125 appearances, scoring 28 goals and getting 20 assists between September 2016 and December 2018.

However, Rashford has enjoyed his time at Camp Nou, seeing a permanent move to join Hansi Flick’s side as a dream move, casting doubt over the reality of him joining their fierce rivals after once season in Spain.

That said, with Rashford’s loan nearly at an end, the next steps in his footballing journey will soon be clear as a return to Old Trafford is unlikely despite Michael Carrick now being in charge.
