Joshua Zirkzee agrees terms with Serie A giants

Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford has been rocky at best since his arrival last summer under Erik ten Hag.

The 24-year-old arrived from Bologna in summer 2024 for a fee of £36.5 million after excelling in Serie A.

However, the former Netherlands striker failed to establish himself as a key player, getting limited minutes under Ruben Amorim.

As such, Zirkzee has been wanting more match experience to help reclaim his spot in the national squad, with a loan now on the table.

It’s understood United are willing to let Joshua Zirkzee leave in the second half of the January transfer window.

However The Red Devils want to retain him whilst the Africa Cup of Nations has reduced their squad depth.

In attack, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are off with Morocco and Ivory Coast respectively at AFCON, so Zirkzee is needed to cover the gaps.

That said, United are open to losing the struggling striker on loan once the AFCON players have returned, as long as a loan deal includes a future buy option.

AS Roma have reportedly submitted a £35 million bid for the 24-year-old, consisting of a loan and option to buy.

Now, Daniele Longo has reported on X that negotiations are going well and Joshua Zirkzee has agreed terms to the move.

A return to Serie A could be just what the former Bologna striker needs, after seeing Rasmus Hojlund performing well on his return to Italy.

It’s also reported that conversations between United and Roma are progressing positively, meaning that Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford could well be over next month.

The bid tabled by Roma includes a £4.4 million (€5 million) loan fee, with the buy fee set at £26.3 million (€30 million), and a £4.4 million (€5 million) bonus for Champions League qualification.
