The Japanese forward made a surprise £10million switch to France in January, bringing an end to his highly successful and trophy-laden three-and-a-half-year spell in Glasgow.
However, the move seems to have fallen flat so far, with Kyogo seeing minimal game time – featuring for only 113 minutes. The former Celtic star has been handed just a single start across his five outings for mid-table Rennes and is still searching for his first goal.
In a bizarre interview last month, Rennes former manager Jorge Sampaoli – who was sacked by the French club shortly after Kyogo’s signing – disclosed that he never approved the high-profile move.
It’s evident that Sampaoli’s replacement, Habib Beye, isn’t keen on the 30-year-old either. Multiple reports from France indicate that Rennes are already planning to sell the Japan international this summer.
L’Equipe has released its yearly salary report for all Ligue 1 clubs, revealing that Kyogo is not listed among the highest-paid players at Rennes. While the club’s average salary increased from €130,000 to €150,000 this season, Kyogo’s earnings remain below that threshold.
According to L’Equipe , Kyogo earns a monthly salary of €115,000, translating to approximately €26,538 per week and an annual total of around €1,380,000. This relatively modest salary in Ligue 1 terms pales in comparison to the €400k accumulated by top earners Seko Fofana and Brice Samba.
Portuguese winger Jota, who made a stunning return to Celtic in the January transfer window, earned a tidy €180,000 per month during his brief time at Roazhon Park.
Meanwhile, wealthy PSG dominate the top 10 rankings, with French star Ousmane Dembele leading the pack as the highest earner in the league.
1. Ousmane Dembélé [PSG] €1,500,000
2. Marquinhos [PSG] €1,120,000
3. Lucas Hernandez [PSG] €1,100,000
4. Achraf Hakimi [PSG] €1,100,000
5. Warren Zaïre-Emery [PSG] €950,000
6. Vitinha [PSG] €900,000
7. Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia [PSG] €900,000
8. Gianluigi Donnarumma [PSG] €849,500
9. Nuno Mendes [PSG] €800,000
10. Presnel Kimpembe [PSG] €640,000
