Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on the Italian manager, Roberto De Zerbi, as a potential replacement for Ange Postecoglou.
The Italian has done quite well at Marseille since joining the club, and he has previously impressed in the Premier League as well. Marseille are second in the Ligue 1 table this season.
During his time at Brighton, he attracted praise from world-class managers like Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. The former Liverpool manager labelled him as a “top coach” during his time in the Premier League.
There is no doubt that he would be a quality appointment for Tottenham if they can get the deal done. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham have long dreamed of appointing the Italian as their manager.
Spurs have a quality squad, and De Zerbi could bring out the best in them. His attractive attacking philosophy could be an instant hit with the fans as well. The Italian was linked with a move to Tottenham two years ago. Back then, Cristian Stellini heaped praise on the 45-year-old as well.
Brighton were outstanding in the Premier League under him, and there is no doubt that he could do an impressive job at Tottenham as well. A club of their stature should be fighting for Champions League qualification and trophies regularly. It has been a disappointing season for them so far, and they are 16th in the league table.
Even if they end up winning the UEFA Europa League, they should look to bring in a new manager, and De Zerbi would be an excellent appointment. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince the Italian to join them and abandon the project at Marseille.
The opportunity to move to the Premier League can be quite exciting, and it remains to be seen what the Italian manager decides. At Tottenham, the 45-year-old could have multiple quality players at his disposal next season and more resources compared to the French outfit. He could be tempted to build a formidable team at the London club and end their wait for a trophy.
